Reverse: garnished square top shield of the Arms of the House of Tudor placed over a long cross fourchee. Legend :POSVI: DEVM: ADIVTORE: MEVM. 1603-25 James I silver Crown (S2665). Third coinage, weight 30.39 gms (copper dies X*/XIX*). Initial mintmark trefoil over lis on both sides (struck from June 27th 1624). Obverse: King on horseback holding sword against shoulder and riding right, groundline below, legend IACOBVS D: G: MAG:, BRI: FRAN: ET HIB: REX. Reverse: Welsh plumes over quartered shield of arms, within beaded border, legend has no punctuation with Ns inverted except for second N which is N over inverted N, QVAE DEVS CONIVNXIT NEMO SEPARET. Welsh plumes indicate Welsh mined silver from Cardiganshire. Light flan striations on obverse from annealing of the blank adds to aging character of coin. NGC certification 6321962-001 has mislabeled reference which should read S2665. A superb example and currently second finest graded. [Provenance ex Mark Rasmussen Numismatist, List 22, C11.
