December 2025 RCA Update

As 2025 draws to a close it’s interesting to reflect on the past year. Most notable has been the massive and sudden increase in the value of gold (up around 60%) and silver (up nearly 80%). These substantial increases have reflected in the value of gold and silver coins – for example a gold sovereign is now worth a minimum of $1500.

For RCA, the year has seen a modest improvement in the offering of English coins and a significant improvement for Roman coins, the latter being our current focal growth area. As noted in the previous post, there seems to be a growing shortage of quality English coins but in contrast some magnificent Roman collections have come to market.

RCA now has the most comprehensive market offering for both English predecimal and Roman coins available in Australia.

Over November we added a few quality English coins including a Choice UNC 1787 shilling – which is also an Australian Proclamation coin – and a highly sought after William the Conqueror silver penny in extremely fine condition (see photo below). We also added our first Roman gold coin – a rare Vespasian aureus.

Over December we will do our annual stocktake and price update with assistance from the 2026 Standard Catalogue of English coins. We will also update our full catalogue for publication in January.

Happy collecting!
